There was strong interest at the sale of Sporting Items, Fine WInes and Spirits held on 30th September.
An excellent offering of whiskeys, in particular, achieved superb prices with two bottles of 1961 Macallan-Glenliver making £6200 and £5800 respectively. There was strong bidding for a 1959 bottle of Talisker Eagle Label Isle that made £2200. Other whiskeys selling well above estimate included 1986 Japanese Malt Whiskey £2000, a 1990 Japanese Malt Whiskey £1700 and a Macallan-Glenlivet Whiskey bottled by Mitchell and Craig £1100. A Quinata do Noval 1963 bottle of port sold for £750.
In the sporting section, there were excellent entries of taxidermy and guns. A taxidermy leopard’s head modelled bearing its teeth sold for £1000 with a 19th century antique elephant gun that was recovered from a shipwreck off Lowland Point, Cornwall in 1809 made £1500. A George Gibbs classic side by side hammer shotgun realised £750.
Our next Sporting, Fine Wines and Spirits sale will be held early next year and entries are invited.
