A successful double-sale week with porcelain stars

With percentage sales steadily increasing over the past few months, Tuesday’s Victorian and Later Effects sale continued this pleasing trend with an almost 90% sales quota – great news for sellers. From the wide variety on offer, top lots included a group of wristwatches featuring a Rotary Automatic Aquaplunge and more which sold for £750, a large collection of 20th century postcards mostly of historical landmarks for £260, and three maritime pen and watercolour drawings for £230. It is this variety which is appealing to buyers – meaning good news across the board.
Saturday’s Antiques and Collectables auction once again saw great interest with a busy saleroom and telephones, with porcelain taking two of the top places: a Royal Worcester fruit decorated pot pourri vase, cover and liner painted by C. Hughes had attracted much interest on the Viewing Days and online during the week and this continued on sale day with a hammer price of £3000. A large Royal Crown Derby Imari pattern part tea and dinner service, and more, also caught the eye of collectors from the moment it went online, selling on Saturday for £2000. Jewellery and silver as usual did well, with a collection of ten 22ct gold bangles rising to £2750 and an interesting brooch in the form of a fox and trombone set with diamonds selling for £1000.
