The 13 April auction of Silver, Jewellery, Watches and Antiques at the Mendip Auction Rooms generated a huge level of interest with an excellent attendance of buyers in the room as well as almost 600 online buyers including representatives from 36 different countries.
Demand for quality jewellery has strengthened and many items for sold in excess of £1000 including a modern platinum and diamond hexagonal cluster ring (£1700) and a vintage Italian 18ct gold block link collar/necklace (£1200). There was a good entry of watches attracting buyers from around the world. A Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King wristwatch (circa 1995) sold for £2700 with a Rolex Oyster Perpetual from the 1940s achieving £1100.
A good entry of silver was also met with strong online and live interest with an impressive George II silver cake basket realising £1300 and a French part table service £1300. An interesting William and Mary silver pin cushion met with particularly strong interest selling for £850.
The auction rooms are finding an increased number of followers seeking quality pictures and an oil on canvas of Venice by the French artist, Antoine Bouvard (1870 – 1955) was sold to a room buyer for £2800. Future sales will include some lovely paintings. The team were delighted to see strong interest for collectable items with a Beatles 'Long Tall Sally' vinyl single record with the signatures of all four band members with excellent provenance selling for £1000.
