Mendip Auction Rooms are delighted to announce that in their sale on 13th and 14th December 2019 we are auctioning a rare re-discovered painting by Carlos Nadal (1917-1998). The attached painting was found hidden in a garage amongst a collection of the vendors grandfather's paintings.
From the estate of the late Leonard Lupton who served in Belgium during the war and after the liberation in 1944 having found love he decided not to return home. The family presume he purchased this painting in Brussels in 1950, as it was part of his estate when he died in 2001, and was kept grouped together with his own paintings. Through various house moves the painting was consigned to the garage and largely forgotten about.
Carlos Nadal is known as the last expressionist as although his contemporaries moved into abstraction he remained committed to his individual style of painting. This exciting discovery will be sold with a estimate of £3,000-5,000 together with an authentication certificate from the Comité Nadal.
