Furniture flies at 20th Century & Modern Design Auction

30th September 2026

As autumn begins to settle over the Mendip Hills, here at Killens we were delighted to see an exceptional performance from the furniture section in our latest 20th Century & Modern Design Auction.

Classic British mid-century design proved especially popular, with sought-after makers including Ercol and G-Plan delivering impressive results. These strong prices continue to buck wider auction trends and reflect the growing popularity of our quarterly specialist sale among both buyers and vendors.

With more than 400 lots offered, the auction showcased far more than furniture alone. A notably diverse array of lighting, eclectic artworks, ceramics and studio glass from renowned makers created a vibrant and varied catalogue, making for an exciting day of competitive bidding.

Scandinavian design also attracted keen interest, with Danish coffee tables by Severin Hansen and Johannes Andersen achieving £500 and £460 respectively. In ceramics, a group of five striking works by celebrated Belgian potter Pierre Culot performed particularly well, realising a combined £1,280.

Among the paintings and pictures, an elegant and abstract gouache on paper by Donald McIntyre, depicting figures on a beach (Lot 346), achieved a strong £600, rounding off a successful sale across all categories.
