Marching to Success: Diverse Battlefield to Bookshelf Sale Draws Strong Bidding

Our latest Battlefield to Bookshelf auction proved to be a resounding success, attracting enthusiastic bidding from collectors across its carefully curated and complementary categories.

Featuring an impressive range of Militaria, coins, historical artefacts, books and stamps, the sale saw many lots exceed their pre-sale estimates, with unusual and personal items once again proving particularly popular.

Among the highlights were an 18th-century cannonball (Lot 180) recovered from the wreck of H.M.S. Lutine, which realised £460, and a late 19th century silver-plated Merryweather-type fireman's helmet (Lot 177), which sold for £680. A poignant First World War group relating to Private Wilfrid Oswald of the Liverpool Regiment (Lot 57) who was killed in action, also attracted strong interest from bidders.

Coins performed well throughout the sale, with the standout result being a 1764 George III gold guinea, which achieved an impressive £1,300.

Overall, this sale demonstrated the enduring appeal of historical collecting across a wide range of disciplines.
