19th April 2025
Our recent Asian and Tribal Art sale on 15th April attracted an impressive online presence, with active participation from buyers across China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, and the broader Far East, as well as strong interest from UK collectors.
The sale featured an excellent selection of ceramics, paintings, figures, and tribal artefacts, with Chinese porcelain proving especially popular. Leading the ceramics section was a beautifully decorated 19th-century Chinese famille rose bowl, which achieved £3,600, selling to a Chinese buyer. Other notable results included an early 20th-century Chinese pale celadon hu-shaped vase that realised £3,000, and a Qing dynasty famille verte vase—later converted into a table lamp—which sold for £2,900. A pale blue-ground Chinese vase bearing a (later) Kangxi mark fetched £1,000.
In addition, a rare 16th/early 17th-century mother-of-pearl bowl from Gujarat sparked strong bidding, ultimately selling for £1,200.
Tribal artefacts were also in demand, with a striking array of spears and masks achieving prices between £300 and £1,000, reflecting the increasing appreciation for authentic tribal craftsmanship among collectors.
